• Congratulations Chloe Kim and Kelly Clark

    Jan 25, 2015

Mammoth team athletes Chloe Kim and Kelly Clark took the Gold and Silver, respectively, in the Women's Superpipe Final at X Games 2015 in Aspen, Colorado.

Kim, at just 14 years old, became the youngest athlete to win a gold medal in X Games history. Clark, who is the winningest athlete in action sports history, celebrated with Kim alongside Australian Torah Bright who earned the Bronze.

We couldn't be more thrilled at Chloe and Kelly's success and on behalf of the entire Mammoth community wish them a heartfelt congratulations!

  • Throw Back Thursday - Drop IN Project

    Jan 22, 2015

    Britta Meyer_Hair Jump_horizontal

Jeremy McGhee is defiant. He defies gravity, physics, and he defies darkness – his own. Jeremy grew up immersed in the world of surfing and snowboarding, discovering his passion for both early on in life. In 2001, at age 25, Jeremy lost the use of his body from the waist down in a motorcycle accident 2 blocks from home.

    p. Nick Isabella

Instead of letting the darkness of his injury and his inabilities swallow him whole, Jeremy has looked to it to maintain his motivation to do what he loves for the past 14 years. In 2012 that motivation brought him to the top of Bloody Couloir, a 12,544ft backcountry route just south of Mammoth. With his legs following on a sled behind him, it took more than 1,000 pull-ups with a specially-made ascension cord to reach the summit. Then, perched atop his sit-ski, he made his way down with all the natural style of the veteran he is.

    Pulling himself up Bloody

Released in December 2013, the Drop IN Project follows Jeremy’s story to the top of Bloody; his passion, his daily battle with darkness and his will to survive.

  • The Real McCoy in Mammoth Magazine

    Jan 15, 2015

Skier, hydrographer, Olympic coach, fisherman, hunter, visionary, dream-maker, legend – Dave McCoy is a household name around these parts. From breaking ground for Mammoth Mountain Ski Area in 1953 to building a zero emission ATV at almost 100 years old, Dave always insists on a couple things: never slow down and always look forward.

In Mike Steer’s piece in the new Mammoth Magazine, he discusses Dave’s humble beginnings, the building of a world-class legacy and his continued drive to move forward. Complimented by a time-capsule of photographs throughout the century, The Real McCoy story does justice to Mammoth’s own father.

  • Prepare to Unload - Chair 3

    Jan 12, 2015

Mammoth Prepare to Unload: Face Lift - Chair 3 from Snowboarder Magazine on Vimeo.

From mid-mountain Chair 3 at Mammoth, you can access a lot of highly turnable terrain. Whether you crave some carves or prefer park laps, it's easy access once you skate off the lift. In the second episode of Mammoth's Prepare to Unload, Jimmy Goodman, Frank Knab, Greg Bretz, Jared Dawoud, Spencer Whiting, and Shayne Pospisil facemelt some laps off Face Lift.

There's light powder in open bowls that lead down to groomed trails and an impressive one-foot section with Knab in Mammoth's Main Park. While the terrain is on display as much as the riding, what this edit really tells us is that we need to make our way to Mammoth ASAP.

  • Unbound Safety Clinic with Gabe Taylor

    Jan 11, 2015

In a month dedicated to the knowledge and education of on-hill safety, we can’t forget about the rules of riding the park. The National Ski Area Association’s Safety Month is in full effect at Mammoth Mountain and on Saturday the movement took over Unbound Terrain Parks to focus on park safety with the Mammoth Junior Snowboard Team.

Who better to teach the rules and regulations to the next generation of greats than our very own Gabe Taylor? With a 15-year career as a professional snowboarder at his back and a bag full to the brim with stories, stoke, tips and know-how, Gabe met the group at the top of Forest Trail and went over how to be park S.M.A.R.T.

    Here’s the code:

Start Small - Work your way up. Build your skills.

Take a lap through Forest Trail or spend a couple hours in South Park before moving over to Main Park. Whether it’s jibs or jumps, work up to your full potential and build your confidence by nailing the easy stuff first.

Make a Plan - Every feature. Every Time.

Have you ever tried to throw together a Christmas dinner in an hour? Of course not. Inventory your ingredients and make a plan. Take into consideration the snow, wind, light and anything else that could affect the way you throw down.

Always Look - Before you drop.

Dropping in is a commitment, make sure you and the feature are clear of all obstacles (human or not) before you drop and when you do, make it known. A hearty “DROPPING!” usually does the trick.

Respect - The features and other riders.

Keep a positive attitude and stay respectful of the people sharing the park. Stoke is contagious and the easiest way to get respect is by giving it.

Take it Easy - Know your limits. Land on your feet.

Gut feelings are usually a good indication of whether or not to “go for it.” If there’s something in your stomach telling you not to, work on poking out that method instead.

    Gabe Taylor. p. Kevin Westenbarger

Stay safe and park S.M.A.R.T. to hone your park skills this winter. See you on the hill!

  • Chloe Kim Featured in Outside Magazine

    Dec 19, 2014

    Photo: Anaïs & Dax /Outside

Chloe Kim is a member of Mammoth Unbound team and is quickly becoming the most high-profile competitive halfpipe snowboarder in the world. Exploding onto the competitive scene last season by landing podiums at the Grand Prix and X Games as well as becoming the youngest World Snowboard Tour overall champion ever, Chloe now 14 is the "it" girl of snowboarding.

Featured this week in an article by Outside Magazine, Kim combines youthful exuberance with veteran poise and skills in the halfpipe. While she was too young (at 13) to qualify for the Sochi Olympics, she is considered to be the next great hope for a US Gold Medal in 2018.

While a lot can happen in four years, hopes are high for Chloe's success and she seems perfectly adept and handling the pressure and the fun!

Congratulations to Chloe Kim and see you on the hill!
