  • Conditions Report 2/24/16

    Feb 24, 2016

    CH 9_PMM

On days like today, when the sun is out and the skies are blue, it’s nice to cruise down a groomer and take in the stunning Sierra views. One of the best runs on the hill for this is Goldhill.  Accessible from Cloud Nine Express, the Goldhill trail is long, lappable, and a ton of fun to ski and ride in all sorts of conditions. There are trees to explore, groomed terrain to zip down, and plenty of side hits and other trails to shoot off of that will lead back to the bottom of the chair. To top it off, you can get to all three base lodges from the top of Cloud Nine Express, giving you the freedom to explore another part of the mountain when you’re ready for a new challenge. Let the good times roll.

  • 5 Tips for a Successful Holiday Weekend

    Feb 12, 2016

The holiday weekend is here, and we couldn't be more excited. Here are a few insider tips to help your weekend go off without a hitch.

    1. Reload Your Ticket. Already have a lift ticket from your last Mammoth visit? You can get on the hill faster and head straight to the slopes by reloading it here.
    2. Pick Up Your Tickets Early. If you don’t have a lift ticket yet, you can still get on the hill early Saturday morning. The Canyon Lodge ticket office will stay open until 11pm tonight, Feb 12, and the Canyon rental shop will be open until 8pm.
    3. Take The Village Gondola Straight to Canyon Lodge. Take the free Village Gondola straight from getting coffee to the lifts. Right above McCoy's in The Village Plaza, the Gondola is an easy way to get the whole crew on the hill quickly and easily.
    4. Hangout at the Main Lodge Sundeck. With blue skies and warm temps in the forecast, kickback with some friends at the Main Lodge Sundeck. Work on your goggle tan, have a famous bloody mary, and watch as people throw down in Unbound Main Park.
    5. Take the Village Ski Back Trail. After a day of fun on the slopes, skip the bus lines and take a scenic cool down run all the way to the Village. Just be sure to get yourself to the Roller Coaster Express (chair 4) area before 4pm.  You can get to the Village Ski Back Trail from Chair 7, Chair 17, Chair 4, or Chair 16 (Canyon Express).  Just follow the signs and you’ll be at kicking it apres style in the Village before you know it. You can find more information on the trail here

  • Tamarack XC Ski Center

    Feb 10, 2016

    Tamarack XC

By now, you probably know that the mountain has been completely open for months, shattering last year's snowfall total with some of the best conditions we've had in years. What you may not know, is that as of this week Tamarack XC Ski Center is officially 100% open. Located in the Mammoth Lakes Basin next to Twin Lakes and Tamarack Lodge, the center boasts over 20 miles of groomed trails to explore. The trails span past Twin Lakes, Lake Mary, and Horseshoe Lake, ranging from expert to beginner. They provide some of the best scenic views in the area and cross country skiing allows you to get there easily. With the awesome warmer temps we've been having on the hill, this week is the perfect time to throw on a t-shirt and a hat and hit the trails.

    See you on the trail.

  • Conditions Report 2.3.16

    Feb 03, 2016

Mammoth received 3-4 feet of snow this past weekend, making for great skiing and riding this week. The sign on the summit of the mountain is getting buried faster than we can say “pow day” and the coverage up top is some of the best in years- there’s even a chute for the brave down Hangman’s Hollow. The wind buff between Facelift Express and High Five Express has been a ton of fun, and is a good choice for some shorter advanced laps. From the top of Facelift Express, go down the face and cut skier’s right. This run will eventually connect you to the bottom of High Five Express while providing some awesome snow to ski and ride. There are still stashes of snow to be found from this last storm, so get out here and make some turns.

    See you on the hill.

  • Mammoth Team Athlete Podium Sweep

    Jan 25, 2016

After getting beat down by Mother Nature for a few days (but also providing the athletes with a bunch of powder to ride) the men's and women's Halfpipe event went off on Sunday morning under bright blue skies with no wind.

Mammoth team athletes Kelly Clark, Chloe Kim and Maddie Mastro used their home field advantage to secure the top three spots on the Women’s Halfpipe podium. With Brandon Davis' win in Slopestyle on Thursday, announcers, judges and other athletes were asking "What's in the water up in Mammoth?"

Kelly Clark rides with the power, speed and amplitude you'd normally see in the Men's competitions. With too many Olympic, XGames, World Championship, USOpen and Grand Prix wins to list, some wonder where Kelly finds the motivation to compete. One look at her face after finishing her run is all you need to have that question answered; she's having as much fun as anyone on the hill.
    View Kelly's run HERE

Giving Kelly a run for her money not only in score, but also on the fun factor, is Mammoth Team alum Chloe Kim. At 15 years old (yeah, 15...) Chloe is becoming a competitive juggernaut which has the snow sports industry buzzing and pop culture keeping both eyes peeled at what the youngster's up to next. Chloe Kim is currently in the rarified air of not only being the sport’s future, but its present as well.
    View Chloe's run HERE

Mammoth Snowboard team athlete Maddie Mastro is climbing the pro ranks at a rapid clip. A year ago her goal was to make the finals and today she found herself standing in front of her friends and family earning her first pro podium in style. Which this young woman has in spades. The subtle tweak on her method and boned out frontside air had announcer Eddie Wall drawing comparisons to the style icon Jamie Lynn, a massive complement for the 15 year old.
    View Maddie's run HERE

Yes, the weather was difficult this week, to say the least. But the Unbound crew here at Mammoth worked their boots off ensuring that every minute of rideable weather was taken advantage of and the courses were dialed for the competitors.

After the Women’s halfpipe podium Mammoth Team’s head coach Ben Wisner couldn’t emphasize enough how hard these athletes have been working.

“It’s insane, the amount of passion and work that these women have shown us is next level. They’re world class athletes that just so happen to love what they do and what it takes to do it.”

  • January Is Hill Safety Month

    Jan 08, 2016

    Ski Patrol

Take the time this month to become an expert on hill safety and to live this month’s safety message: "Rip With Respect". With over 13 feet of snow so far this season, it’s important to know the safest ways to have fun on the mountain. Learn about tree wells and how best to avoid Snow Immersion Suffocation (SIS), read the Kids-on-Lifts Safety Tips to enjoy the hill with your family, or educate yourself on the Mammoth Safety Initiatives on the Safety Conduct page

Prepare your kids to shred the whole mountain by enrolling them in the Junior Hill Safety Program. Open for kids ages 7-12 who are intermediate to advanced skiers and riders, the program allows them to shadow ski patrol for a day, and is a fun way to foster on-the-hill safety awareness. Kids will learn avalanche safety and techniques, basic accident assessment, how to assess terrain, and more. Find out more about the program here, and register them for one of the four dates by emailing before spots fill up.

Make sure you’re prepared to hit the hill by knowing the basics of hill safety and the skiers code of conduct, and as always, “Rip With Respect”.

    See you on the hill.
